FOG COLOR SETTINGS MADE EASY

ever make a map and wanted to change the sky color only to be discouraged because you couldnt get the color you where wanting. you can get the settings needed for the sky color you want in just a few steps

1. open paint(start,programs,accessories,paint)
2. click colors on the task bar
3. click edit colors
4. click on an empty box under custom colors
5. click on define custom colors
6. slide tint scale(far right) to desired tint middle of scale is a good place
7. left click and drag cursor in color box untill desired color is found release mouse button
8. write the number down in the RED GREEN BLUE boxes
9. in your dflwmed check the fog color box then place these numbers in the RED GREEN BLUE boxes

now your map will have the desired sky color settings you have been looking for

this works in winME with dfbhd, dflw, and probably dftfd

uhm...

or you could just download the environment tool from this site....

then you can see what is will look like with the terrain, the sky, and the fog depth all at once. a lot easier if you ask me.

i perfer using paint programs/ let me guess you didnt like spinach before you tried it

the drawback to the environment tool is that although its alot faster than guessing in the med it is still a guess
example:'is the color im looking for more red green or blue or is there any red green or blue in the color at all?'

the fog setting is also deceiving with a fog setting of 0 or a high fog setting it shows no color on the terrain when in the map the color will show on the horizon another deceiving part is that the fog scale is somewhat like a tint scale.

on the contrary the fog is probably the most useful applications in the environment tool.

i personally perfer to use paintshop pro
7 because like microsoft paint you can see all the 16.7 million colors possible on the color chart and tint scale and dont have near as much guess work

another plus is
lets say you want the sky color to match an object in the map, the terrain in the map, the color of sky type selected(example dawn 1,2 ect) you can have a dawn 1 sky but a dawn 2 fog color, a sky color in a map that you have played, or the color of your grandmas hair hehe

1. take a screenie of map
2. open it and save it as a .bmp
3. open paint shop pro 7 or microsoft paint
4. open the screenie(or any pic)
5. select the color picker dropper.
6. left click on the screen.
(the settings will appear in a window by the dropper in paintshop pro 7)
note: paintshop pro users skip steps 7-9
7. click colors on the task bar
8. click edit colors
9. click on define custom colors
10. write the number down in the RED GREEN BLUE boxes
"wow that was fast imagine how long that would of took guessing with the environtment tool"

dont get me wrong
i think the environment tool is a great idea i feel it needs to be improved

example:put a color chart & tint scale like that in the paint programs and use the
color bars as a fine tunning tool
a feature to open screenies and get color settings off them would be nice

PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST tell me what you think

just a thought/idea

maybe you could start a thread ( or peeps can do right here ) with fav fog settings that mappers can put in their coolest fog colors. like heres one 40/60/40 a cool (olive drab?) green fog color that i got from one of Whisper -M- 's maps and is featured in my map cliff hanger.
