Installing Mods like DF2 and TFD Items..

OK, here's the order I use to install the Mods available for DFLW..

I used a "Clean Install" of DFLW..just follow the links if you need to download the files..

1. DF2 Objects to DFLW

2. Task Force Dagger Items to DFLW

3. DF: LW Expansion Pack

4. DF:LW EXP Fix

5. DFTFD Terrains to DFLW

It's important that the DF2 Items be installed first, because the TFD Items has all the def files built on the def file from DF2 items, so, if you install the DF2 items after, it will over write the def file for the TFD Items, and they WILL NOT work.

The other mods after the TFD items don't alter the def files for the items, so the order is not as important.

All Items will show up in the 192b Med with no problems.

***Note: All the mods come with an installer, please follow the instructions for each..Don't run the installer from the DFLW game directory..

Another issue is how to uninstall the mods.

The mods dont come with an uninstaller, and they dont show up in add remove programs. So how do you uninstall them?

The answer is you cant. All you can do is reinstall a fresh copy of the game. Then reinstall the mods you want. Remember to save your player.sav file and all your maps. Unless you followed the steps below to backup the game.

I would suggest to everyone to make a backup of the Terrains.pff and the dflw.pff files before installing anything to the game.
To do that all you need to do is make a new folder, call it "dflw backups" or something and copy both pff files to the new folder.
Do not and i repeat do not "cut" unless you want to move both files twice!

Now if you need to uninstall something in the game, you can just copy the backed up pff files into the LW directory and reinstall the mods you want.

Hopefully that will answer Green*dragons question.

Any screen shots of the DF2 for LW mod floating around?

Is it possible to load a mod with a /mod switch in DF3/DF4? Has anyone tried?

Great work by the way.

Yes you can run a mod from any df game with /D ,

As long as one has a back up of the 2 pff's there fine to unistall the mod and no need to save the player file. Most mods 99.9% of mods use only the main pff file such as dflw.pff and df2.pff ect ect as the game reads from the main folder first then the dflw.pff then the terrain.pff ect ect ,So if one had the same 3di in the game folder with the /d then it would read that one first overriding the stock 3di with the same name in the pff,And so for if it was in the dflw pff ,Most installers always makes a back up of the pfff there changing and either puts it ina new folder with in the main one and or just renames it.

The only screenshots for the DF2 objetcts for DFLW that i know of are the screenshots used in the map database, of course those are only on maps that have the mod and may or may not show any of the objects used in that mod.

The player.sav file contains the players info and only needs to be saved if you reinstall the whole game and dont want to lose your settings, sp missions completed, and kills list.
The file doesnt need to be backed up because of adding a mod, or replacing a backed up pff file.
All in all backing up the file only makes it easier to get the game back to the way you had it after a reinstall, but is not neccessary.

Thought i might make that statement a little more clear

So, one could make a mod compiler in a sence; where the installer would compile all the goods into the new .pff's, then make a folder where it could run from right?

Sorry.. its late ..lol

Can you add another switch ...like :

"dflw.exe /d mymod" .. where mymod would be the directory that holds the goods. Does this work?

The installer we use for LW and TFD just pack the files into the stock pff files..

I don't think the / mod mymod stuff works with LW and TFD.. but I will check..

Can the C4 editor still be used with this mod, I'm guessing it can.

And, are there any thumbs for DF2 stuff when viewed in the C4MED?

I'm almost finished the C4 med for this mod, and it includes all the DF2 stuff as well..the normal version doesn't have the DF2 or TFD 3di files..this new version does..

I am just doing the Med Pics now..there's a lot of them...I have finished the vehicles and buildings, I'm onto the decorations now, but, it will be a big download, about 40 megs, cos I have to include all the terrain files..including the ones from EXP, which is also compatable with the Df2 and TFD mods..

If you need them, I have some high quality renders of the DF2 items. I'll be using them in the Veteran mod; and would be more than happy to send them over to you.

Here are a few listed..

http://www.kahncentral.net/delta/thumbs/page_01.htm

I'm taking these pics as I convert the buildings, so I don't have them all; yet. I have 640x480 renders too.

I've been told the C4MED uses 200x200 thumbs, is this correct?

Yeah, 200 x 200 x 8bit pcx is preffered, I'm almost finished..so don't worry about sending them over..I have a routine now as well, by doing them myself, I'm also beta testing every item in the med..just to make sure each one has a valid 3di file, and is actually part of the DF2/TFD/LW def file that I'm using..

By making them 8bit, you make the file as small as possible, to help keep the download size smaller as well..

Been doing a s/s of each item..that's about a 1meg pcx file, then I create a 200 x 200 pic from that, that's about 100-130 k, then, when I convert them to 8 bit, it's only about 20-30k per pic..

I'm not doing any fancy cut out on new backgrounds like I did for EXP and the AB JO med..although a few do have some text...

Coolness, I thought it was 200x200.. but wasn't sure.

As far as the thumbs I'm using, those aren't cut outs; those are renders from blender. They are for the "Delta Veteran Mod" for BHD.

I'm glad you guys are putting dedication into your mods, it looks great and turned out well. Can't wait to see the C4MED with all the thumbs. It would be neat to see a modded C4MED for DF1; with thumbs

All of those files you saw get dumped into the folder need to be stuffed into the game now. There will be an installer program that got dumped in there along with the other files in the folder. It is an EXE file and probably has DF2 or mod in its name. Look for one of those white boxes with a blue border around it that will be the type of file you're looking for.

remember if your running any 3rd party progams(including the above listed MODs) and wish to join a NOVA hosted server your account will be banned

make sure you also have a clean install of the game(no 3RD party programs) if you wish to join NOVA hosted servers.

i think something that would really help DFLW to be revived a bit would be if all the MODS where included in one MOD(DL) i think more people would use it and since there would be only 1 MOD servers might be more inclined to have a server for that MOD

lack of ignorance is the first sign of stupidity

Excelent idea, i think i may actualy do that.
I think i have all the mod items in a file someplace since i was working on a new mod with Hairy.

At my squad we have the PFF file for download to squad members who dont have the mod, works just as well but is a huge file. (why its for squad members only) so this would probably be 1/4 the size or less.
